The U.S. administration, led by President Donald Trump, has escalated trade tensions by imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports, bringing the total tariffs to 50%. This move is a direct response to India's continued purchases of Russian oil, which the U.S. views as a violation of its sanctions. Despite these pressures, Modi has reaffirmed India's stance, expressing a readiness to bear any personal cost to safeguard the nation's agricultural sector.
In his address, Modi also paid homage to M.S. Swaminathan, the architect of India's Green Revolution, highlighting the need to build upon his legacy by ensuring nutritional security for all citizens.
