In the face of escalating trade tensions with the United States, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has delivered a resolute response to President Donald Trump's recent tariff impositions. Addressing a global conference marking the birth centenary of renowned agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan, Modi emphasized India's unwavering commitment to its farmers, fishermen, and dairy producers. He stated, "For us, the interests of our farmers are our top priority. India will never compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen, and dairy farmers."

The U.S. administration has imposed a 25% tariff on Indian goods, citing India's continued importation of Russian crude oil as a punitive measure. This action has intensified trade tensions between the two nations, with the U.S. administration expressing concerns over India's trade practices and energy partnerships.

In response to these developments, India's Ministry of External Affairs has criticized the U.S. tariffs, labeling them "unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable." The ministry highlighted that India's energy imports, including those from Russia, are based on market factors and aimed at ensuring the energy security of its 1.4 billion citizens.

Prime Minister Modi has also called for a renewed focus on domestic production and consumption. He urged citizens to prioritize indigenous goods, stating, "We will buy those things which have been made by the sweat of an Indian."
