Addressing a global conference marking the birth centenary of renowned agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan, Modi emphasized that the welfare of farmers is India's top priority. He stated, "India will never compromise on the interests of its farmers, dairy farmers, and fishermen." Acknowledging the potential personal and political costs, Modi expressed his readiness to bear them, underscoring his dedication to the nation's agricultural sector.

The U.S. administration's decision to double tariffs on Indian imports has been justified as a penalty for India's ongoing oil purchases from Russia, despite international sanctions.
